Psychotherapy for Mental Health

a teen's mental health benefits from psychotherapy

In Washington state, studies show that one in five men and women report having some form of mental health condition that is impacting their lives. Yet, the vast majority of them choose to struggle alone. Psychotherapy for mental health offers effective treatment for depression, substance abuse, and other mental health disorders that interfere with their wellbeing. A psychotherapy program is essential for teens whose symptoms are impacting their education and development.

At Imagine Seattle, we support teen boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 17 who are struggling with depression, bipolar disorder, or other mental health illnesses. We offer outpatient treatment where teens will participate in various behavioral therapies to address their needs and develop healthy coping skills for managing their symptoms. For more information about our psychotherapy program, call 888.346.0473 or fill out our online form, and we will get back to you within 24 hours.

Using Psychotherapy for Mental Health

Psychotherapy is a form of talk therapy that works with teens and adults with emotional or mental health issues that are impacting their health and wellbeing. Despite what many people think, depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders simply don’t go away. Symptoms can persist for weeks, months, or even years in extreme cases.

Symptoms can be mild to severe, and what triggers their symptoms depend on biological, environmental, and personal experiences. While there is no cure for mental health disorders, there are several effective psychotherapy programs to treat a wide range of disorders.

Psychotherapy for mental health can treat:

  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Schizophrenia
  • Substance use disorder
  • Personality disorders

Imagine Seattle treats teen boys and girls whose mental health symptoms are negatively impacting their education and development. Our therapists have experience treating teens with a wide range of mental health conditions and building their confidence in reaching their recovery goals.

Different Types of Counseling for Teens

There are many different types of counseling for teens who are dealing with past traumas, relationship issues, or addiction. Counseling programs use private and group therapy sessions where teens can develop and practice their new skills in a supervised environment.

Counseling for teens is available through several types of treatment programs:

  • Behavioral therapy – Behavioral therapy helps teens discover the connection between their thoughts and actions and how to change their negative thoughts and behaviors. They also work to improve their communication skills and that it is OK to talk about their feelings.
  • Trauma therapy – This type of therapy focuses on acute, chronic, and complex trauma that can disrupt your teen’s development and education. Therapists work to uncover any past or recent trauma that is causing depression, personality disorders, or substance abuse.
  • Crisis intervention – Crisis intervention helps teens get through a crisis such as a divorce, sexual or gender confusion, or the death of a loved one. They learn how to communicate their feelings calmly while developing calming skills for stressful situations.
  • Teen relationship counseling – Relationships can be hard for teens and can cause significant mental distress. Therapists work with teens to develop healthy relationship traits and how to recognize unhealthy relationship habits.

There are many other types of counseling for teens available to address the wide range of mental health disorders that can impact their mental health.
